1:54 pm	Photo of the day 20th July 2008 Shonaleigh, originally uploaded by lamentables. We spent the weekend at a storytelling festival in Shropshire. The weather was not ideal and I was mostly cold. I even wore shoes and socks, something which will shock those who know me well. As a whole, the festival was a bit thin and lack lustre, but every item on the programme that we attended was excellent - no low points at all. The photograph is of the wonderful storyteller, Shonaleigh, here presenting a world première of 'Lost in Translation' along with my favourite funny man, Peter Chand. 1:12 pm	I'm off to spend the weekend in a field men and their erections, originally uploaded by lamentables. Once we've packed everything into the car (and boy is there a lot of it for just a weekend) we're off to the wilds of Shropshire for the Festival at the Edge. 7:29 pm	sooooooooooopersonic Last weekend we were in Birmingham for Supersonic 08 at the Custard Factory. First time I've visited the Custard Factory and I loved its funkiness, so I photographed it. The festival was great - bands I wanted to see (Efterklang, Fuck Buttons), bands I didn't know I wanted to see but it turns out I really did (Red Sparowes, Parts & Labor), bands I have no desire to see or hear ever again (Oxbow, Black Sun), a guy who makes music by attaching a contact mic to glass and licking, biting, shouting at the glass and inevitably cutting his face in the process (Justice Yeldham), the best-behaved crowd you could ever wish for and gluten-free, vegetarian food. I photographed no bands at all: it's haaaaard to do anything interesting and everyone else is taking the same photos. abrinsky has a set here if you're interested. 8:41 am	how to hide from the government According to this article: A couple in Wisconsin telephoned police in the middle of the night after finding a man in their basement covered head to toe in barbecue sauce. "He told the officers that it was urban camouflage," said the homeowner... The guy told officers he had covered himself in barbecue sauce because he wanted to hide from the government. 10:17 pm	random lamentables is random Look! In Inuvik the RCMP have camper vans. Doesn't that just make you want to write due South fic? That ad for all the naughty shows on Showtime? I watched it on a crowded train last week coming back from London. I think I win at classy. And related to that, if anyone wants CKR asking "how do you accidentally go down on someone" as an mp3 file, then here it is I know everyone reads Boing Boing, but just in case... this is probably the coolest thing ever. And it's SCIENCE. ETA: Remind me, O Wise Flist, of the due South fic which utilises the unusual properties of cornstarch. I didn't dream that one, did I? 4:06 pm	hey, due South people, don your pimp hats I've recently been introduced to emeraldsedai who has been watching due South and devouring fanfic too. I'm pretty useless at recommending fics - I get that what's-your-favourite paralysis - though I have pimped some of my favourite writers, and some useful comms. So, my dears, I'm asking you to recommend a favourite dS fic or three, writers that should not be missed, picspammers extraordinaire, and useful communities. Also, what do you suggest emeraldsedai should watch next and why? (I'm hoping I might discover some things I've missed along the way, too.) 7:22 am	a sunbeam, a sunbeam More joy: 1) My brother has had confirmation of his place on the degree course of his choice. Big and scary changes lie ahead for him, but I'm very proud of him for wanting to do this and for getting on to the course (he has few formal qualifications). 2) This may well be the cutest cat photo ever. 3) My office walls got their first coat of colour yesterday afternoon and my room is now made of sunshine. Not so joyful, or why is my brain so full of crap? a) Last week I bought a new bra the style or colour of which was described as 'Chantilly'. It's a lovely bra, but every time I wear it I find myself singing 'Chantilly lace and a pretty face' and I didn't even know what the song was or who sang it until I googled. b) Since yesterday, when the first coat of 'Sunbeam' paint went up, I've been singing 'Jesus wants me for a sunbeam, to shine for him each day'.
